Method

1. Rinse the rice in cold water until the water runs clear. 2. Soak the rice in water for 30 minutes. 3. In a cooking pot, heat the ghee or butter over medium heat. 4. Add the cumin seeds and mustard seeds and cook for 30 seconds until they start to splutter. 5. Add the chopped onion and ginger-garlic paste and cook for about 2-3 minutes until the onion is soft and translucent. 6. Add the turmeric powder, coriander powder, and red chili powder, and mix well. 7. Drain the water from the rice and add it to the pot. Stir well. 8. Add 4 cups of water and salt to taste. Stir well. 9. Bring the water to a boil. 10. Once the water starts boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with a lid. 11. Cook for 20-25 minutes until the rice is cooked and fluffy. 12. Turn off the heat and let the rice sit for 5 minutes. 13. Fluff the rice with a fork and serve hot with your favorite side dish.
