- 1 cup basmati rice
- 1 ½ cups water
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon coriander seeds
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 cardamom pods
- 2 cloves
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro

Method
- Rinse the basmati rice in cold water until the water runs clear.
- In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds, coriander seeds, cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, cloves, and bay leaf. Cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the rinsed basmati rice to the saucepan and stir to coat the rice in the spices and oil.
- Add the water and salt to the saucepan and bring to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan with a lid, and let the rice simmer for 18-20 minutes.

Notes
Make sure to rinse the basmati rice until the water runs clear to remove any excess starch. This will prevent the rice from becoming too sticky or clumpy. If you don’t have all of the spices listed, you can still make this recipe with just cumin and coriander seeds.
