Description

Ingredients

  • 1 cup chicken broth

Method

  1. Peel and grate the yucca, plantains, and green bananas.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the grated yucca, plantains, and green bananas together.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix together the pork, sofrito, adobo seasoning, oregano, and garlic powder.
  4. Add the chicken broth to the pork mixture and mix well.
  5. Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  6. Add the pork mixture to the pot and cook for 15 minutes or until the pork is browned.
  7. Remove the pork from the pot and set it aside.
  8. Take a banana leaf and cut it into 12-inch squares.
  9. Place a spoonful of the yucca mixture on the banana leaf and spread it out.
  10. Place a spoonful of the pork mixture on top of the yucca mixture.
  11. Wrap the banana leaf around the filling and tie it with string.
  12. Repeat this process with the remaining ingredients.
  13. Place the pasteles in a large pot of boiling water.
  14. Cook for 1 hour or until the pasteles are cooked through.
  15. Remove the pasteles from the water and let them cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

If you can't find banana leaves, you can use parchment paper instead. Make sure to cut the parchment paper into 12-inch squares.
